All MVHR filters should be this easy to change! (pads slot into frames)

After a couple of years our original stock of MVHR filters was used up. We then faced a dilema: The MVHR manufacturer was asking about 7 Euro for each G4 foam filter pad, and the online prices for a single Lindab F7 intake filter were between £40 and £60. Although the F7’s last 6 months here it seemed a lot of money for a cheap plastic frame and a bit of synthetic pleating.

Also, because we do a lot of cooking the MVHR G4 filter gets clogged pretty quickly on the extract side (main method of extracting from the kitchen). We want to change the filter as required without worrying about cost.

The F7 filter was looking pretty black and the G4 pads were now beyond

a simple wash. I decided to call some of the UK manufacturers that supply filters for commercial systems and installers.

I ended up ordering with:

No, we are not sponsored in any way! They deserve a mention for their no-nonsense help, which may assist others.

I find larger wholesalers sometimes better to deal with than those geared to

private customers. Jasun are very happy to do small orders and made a
point of double-checking my spec. (minimum net order value £30).

Rolls of filter media are cheap per m² but way too big. Jasun cut our pads precisely to the mm for a total unit price of just 65p (4-7 Euro in Germany!).

The F7s were £10.62 each (made to my spec)
G4s 65p each (synthetic pads cut to my spec. blue/white 15mm thick)

Here’s the breakdown of my order (enough to last us about 3 years):

JF290-P JF290 Blue/White 1.5m/sec@43Pa Dust Holding
Capacity 474g/m2
Height: 295 Width: 260 Depth: 15 Grade: G4

Height: 292 Width: 292 Depth: 48 Grade: F7
10 Working Days 3 10.62 0 31.86

The F7s are really well made; more robust than the Lindab ones. Rigid and
durable plastic frame.

I dealt with a guy named Andy Parkhouse who was very helpful, but the
company seems very straightforward and apparently have a comprehensive
range of filter types and media.

Note: A new EC rating definition from 2012 means the old synthetic pleated filters are now mostly rated at F6. However,
this is more than adequate for our purposes, since Europe has yet to demand that plants produce smaller pollen, so we should be OK 😉
