….or a bicycle with tyres that only last a month?Y Foel in deep snow

We expect so much, from so many things we use every day. We have become accustomed to high levels of efficiency in design and energy use. We are so demanding with so many of the products of the industrial age.

So why would we even think of building a house that uses more than £150 worth of heating? (Ours has used an average of £78 mains gas equivalent over the last 4 years).

I suppose the short answer is because life has become so transient in so many ways. We no more expect a home for life than we do a job for life.
